Dance Marathon 2012!
Event on 2012-03-02 00:00:00

Starting March 2nd at 8:30pm to March 3rd at 3am, this annual all night event raises money for the East Tennessee Children's Hospital!

Dance Marathon is a way for the community to come together to make a difference in the lives of these children.

The treatment plan for a child with cancer is lengthy and expensive.

Many of the treatment options are not covered by insurance and financially burden families. Luckily for families of the East Tennessee area the East Tennessee Children's Hospital will not turn a patient and their family away due to lack of funds.

Dance Marathon raises money to put in ETCH's fund that gives them the opportunity to not have to turn away a patient.

Dancers are required to be in constant movement and on their feet for the main event for a reason.

We do this to honor the patients who have to stay up, sometimes all night, in order to receive treatments.

These treatments are painful, long, and exhausting on their bodies and this is the reason why we stay up and active. We do it for those who can't.

Although it is exhausting, the small foot pain we are feeling is nothing compared to what the children are facing, so we keep dancing.

More information from the event can be found at the following websites:

Cancer Counseling
Cancer

I’m creating a website for my Developmental Counseling Field Study on Cancer Counseling. In this website you’ll find information regarding concerns, treatments, resources, and references (works cited) for living to a better life with cancer.

If you have had cancer (must be an adult over the age of 18) who would like to be part of this field study, please friend me up on flickr and then send me a message. I’ll get back to you on what I would like to know and all the good details.

The website is a work in progress, nothing works except the welcome page for now. Any thoughts on the desing / layout? I’m using Apple’s iWeb just because it’s so easy to use and does not require a lot of time on my part to code or develop.

The Human Body — Cancer
Cancer

The cells of the body are workshops, a thousand times smaller than the cells of a honeycomb, yet furnished with every modern convenience. Besides, the inhabitants do not mind being shut up in their restricted quarters — everything has been provided to ensure their well-being. And the same laws apply to them all.
Naturally, here as in any community, there are certain individuals who prefer to live in the fringe of society. They are evil doers and they hide, the better to be able to carry out their illegal trade. Their hiding-places are most often cells at the bottom of blind alleys where their sort form unhealthy growths which quickly develop, branch out, and bring trouble to the peaceful city, and often death. These clusters of cells have a frightening Latin name which means crab: Cancer.

Hysterectomy: Exploring Your Options

Hysterectomy is the second most common major surgical procedure performed on womenin the United States. Because of new nonsurgical treatments and the rising opposition to the procedure from women’s and patients’ groups, hysterectomies are performed less frequently than in the past, but many disorders of the uterus fibroid tumors, uterine and cervical cancer, pelvic inflammatory disease, endometriosis, adenomyosis, and uterine prolapse still may require surgical treatment. For some women, the decision to have a hysterectomy is an easy one; for others, it is a difficult choice associated with concerns about risks, discomfort, and female identity. In Hysterectomy: Exploring Your Options, experienced gynecologists Edward Wallach and Esther Eisenberg provide complete and up-to-date information about every aspect of the procedure. Written with compassion for all women, this indispensable guide explains the anatomy of the uterus, describes the symptoms of gynecological disorders that may require hysterectomy, discusses the full range of diagnostic tests and treatments, provides details of the surgery itself and postoperative recovery, includes details about other approaches to treatment, and examines long-term consequences involving sexual and reproductive issues as well as hormone replacement therapy. Also included are useful advice about how to talk with your doctor and case studies illustrating the real-life experiences of a variety of women. In Hysterectomy: Exploring Your Options, women will find the information they need to work with their physicians to make informed decisions about their health care. also for nurses, medical assistants, and clerical staff who work in a busy gynecologist’s office. The medical information is presented clearly, is current and accurate, and very readable.
